New Dreamcast Game Found - Millennium Racer: Y2K Fighters !

Wipeout-esque racing game Millennium Racer: Y2K Fighters didn't set the world on fire when it released in 1999 on PC, but it actually turns out the game was also intended for release on our beloved Dreamcast. Earlier this month, the owner of a live journal site who goes by the very deliciously sounding, "japanese_cake" was contacted by someone called, "Kuririn84" (obviously a Dragonball fan), who claimed to own a Katana Dreamcast devout which just so happened to have the actual files for an unreleased Millennium Racer: Y2K Fighters stored away on the hard drive.

They subsequently shared this information with Tom Charnock, of Dreamcast Junkyard fame, who has since managed to get the game up and running on a Dreamcast itself and kindly made it available to download from the usual locations.

Visuals are somewhat akin to Rez meets Wipeout - smeared with crap textures

I have given the game some playtime using an emulator (no CD burner at present to test it on an actual Dreamcast) and it does seem to run rather smoothly with none of the jittery slowdown you would expect from emulation. As you can probably grasp from the screen shots above, Millennium Racer: Y2K Fighters is no looker, and to be honest isn't a patch on Wipeout 2097 which it is clearly inspired from;however, it is another great example of the sheer amount of Dreamcast titles that were simply abandoned and more importantly the close nature of our community in ensuring something which was once lost, is now accessible and free to all. Great job Dreamcasters!
